MATCH REPORT |
|
|
Peter Vossen Builders Matamata Swifts have been defeated 2-0 by Albany United at the Domain. In a game of few chances, where neither team looked overly inspired, the visitors profited twice from defensive errors to bag the points.
The visitors were ahead on ten minutes when the Swifts allowed Albany a free header from a corner, which was comfortably dispatched. The goal underlined an out of sorts start to the match by a Swifts side that was a ice cold as the conditions.
Matamata slowly sorted out their shape and got into the match a little more as the game went on. The team looked to press forward but came up against a strong and well marshalled Albany defence that gave little away.
The second half was almost a footballing non-event. Both sides showed plenty of endeavour but little attacking quality as defence ruled.
Albany doubled their lead with only a few minutes remaining. An individual error at the back left a visiting attacker free in front of goal with Matamata keeper, Tom Pamment stranded. The finish was composed and assured.
With all the bottom four sides losing this result wasn't terminal for Matamata but the team will need to perform much better next week at Glenfield if they want to take anything from that match. |
