The
Swifts reserves faced Cambridge away in their toughest match of
the season to date and it took two quality goals in the second half
to decide the match in their favour.
Both sides struggled to create many clear cut chances during the
game and neither side could make the breakthrough before the interval.
The Swifts midfield of Nicolas Sandoval, Gabriel Valarino, Bevan
Shelley and Julio Medina had a good contest with their opposites
and had the advantage as the game progressed.
Up front Joe Alves and Neil Wiseman hassled and harried all day,
while the Swifts defence of Joseph Dew, Peter Challis, Andrew Monteith
and Chris Bedford scrambled well to deny Cambridge clear openings
with keeper Richard Paradizo also in good form including one exceptional
save at close range to keep his goal intact.
The Swifts finally took the lead with twenty minutes remaining when
Bevan Shelley powered home a header from a Medina corner. Another
Shelley freekick effort required a fine save from the Cambridge
keeper.
With time almost gone Matt Monteith held the ball up well before
laying off the pass for Jono Monteith to knock the ball home from
twelve metres to seal the match for the Swifts.
A good result in a tight physical match which takes the Swifts into
first place in the league.
