The
Swifts reserves had an inexperienced Melville team as their first
up opposition in the league in Hamilton on Saturday.
They placed Melville on the back foot right from the start and it
was only lack of finishing that prevented the score been even higher.
Gabriel Valarino finally opened the Swifts account when he waltzed
through the defence and neatly tucked the ball away. Melville equalised
shortly after in one of their few genuine attacks. Nicolas Sandoval
gave the Swifts their lead back with a 20 metre thunderbolt and
Valarino got his second of the match when he punished a defensive
error.
Up 3 - 1 at half time the Swifts were in full control and hungry
for more goals.
Dave Mann got the first goal in the second half with a 'blinder'
at the back post. It was then the Neil Wiseman show as he atoned
for a few misses in the first half with a five goal haul in half
an hour including a deft flick header.
There were many opportunities created during the match with Valarino,
Sandoval, Chris Bedford, Joseph Dew and Julio Medina in midfield
all combining well.
An encouraging start for the team although they will need to be
sharper up front when they take on some of the other teams.
