The
Swifts reserves rebounded from last weeks defeat with a resounding
victory at the Domain.
With a number of forced changes from last week the Swifts took a
while to settle into the game as the visitors started strongly.
It wasn't until twenty minutes in that the first goal came with
the Unicol keeper unable to hold a Rodrigo Navarro shot and Neil
Slater reacted quickest to the loose ball.
From then on it was a flood of goals as the Swifts slick passing
and movement off the ball created more than a few chances with Slater,
Navarro and Matt Monteith all cashing in.
The Swifts took a 6 - 2 lead into the interval, a little annoyed
in conceding the two goals.
After the break there was a lull in the scoring as the visitors
tightened their defence, but the superior fitness of the Swifts
began to tell as the game opened up again.
Jason Collins, filling in at centre back, often got forward on surging
runs, Chris Bedford enjoyed his run on the opposite side of the
field for a change, Slater filled in at midfield with the always
consistent Nicolas Sandoval. Manager Justin Read had not planned
on taking the field but covered a few miles on the right flank,
while up front Navarro's ball skills had the visitors turning this
way and that.
Matt Monteith was the Swifts player of the day, growing more confident
creating and finishing opportunities.
Final goal tallies were Neil Slater 5, Rodrigo Navarro 4 and Matt
Monteith 3 in what was a good all round team performance.
The Swifts next match is against Wanderers C who sit just above
them on the table in what will be a far sterner test of their scoring
abilities.
