The
Swifts reserves scored a dramatic come from behind win at the University
on Saturday.
The reserves roped in a few old hands as calving season saw a few
regulars unavailable. Then an indiscretion ten minutes into the
game led to the Swifts playing the rest of the game with ten men,
which on a bigger than average pitch was going to test their stamina.
The Swifts looked dangerous on a number of occasions but it was
Unicol who converted their few chances to go into the interval two
goals up.
The Swifts revival started in the second half when first Adam Graham
managed to chest a freekick home and then drew level when Leroy
Moses showed good control to score from close in.
Keeper Justin Read then made an important one-on-one save but later
after a defensive mix up couldn’t stop Unicol retaking the lead.
The Swifts replied almost immediately with Graham rounding the keeper
and slotting the ball home from a very acute angle.
And then in the last minute Graham was fouled in the box and Neil
Slater converted the penalty to complete the comeback.
Neil Slater was the Swifts player of the day starting the game up
front, was shifted into the midfield and finished the game at the
back. Grant Laidlaw made an impression in his spell in the midfield
as did Phil Ruck at left back.
Pete Challis mixed the subtle with the not so subtle, while Joe
Dew always gets the big guys to mark and does well. Matt Monteith
had to contend with an unfamiliar role in midfield and Chris Bedford
showed the old swerves were still there in what was an entertaining
game.
The Swifts last home game is against the runaway league winners
Wanderers Campbell against whom they had a narrow loss in the first
round.
