Matamata
Women's had their first away game for the season and were still
on a high from their last win, and you could also say a bit complacent
about the game.
It took a long time for Matamata to settle into their game with
Morrinsville playing a very defensive formation. This made it hard
for the girls up front to find a way through.
Morrinsville attackers had a lot of speed and gave the backline
a run for their money with some great through balls and crosses
in from the side which also put a great amount of pressure onto
Keeper Jennifer Hull who made a some brilliant saves.
It took a while for the first goal to come and when it did it was
a relief to all and it was scored by Sarah Monteith.
Just at the end of the first half Morrinsville gave away a direct
penalty straight out in front after Striker Kerrie McVeigh was taken
out by the Keeper, so Serena Jenkins stepped up to the plate on
her first game back to take the shot. The shot at goal went directly
to the keeper who in turn misjudge it and Serena followed it up
to score the goal on the second attempt.
At the half time whistle it was 3 - 1 to our girls.
In the second half the game settled down and some better soccer
was played. More communication and passing was utilized. Mid wings
Ashley Ferguson and Jaimee Morgan stuck to the game plan and centered
the ball for the strikers to run on to and Matamata converted this
into three more goals, but a lapse in concentration in the backline
let Morrinsville in one more time.
This game was a wake up call for the Women's team as this was a
very well fought game by Morrinsville.
Goal Scorers were Nat Gaskell - 2, Sarah Monteith - 2, Kerrie McVeigh
- 1 and Serena Jenkins -1.
Today's Matamata Car Painters Player of the day went to Keeper Jennifer
Hull, which was well deserved.
The next game is 30th April at The Domain Vs. Hamilton Wanderers,
kick off is at 11am. See you there!
