For
once in the season of 2006 the Swift Ladies actually got to play
a game in sunshine - it was almost a novelty!
Having
the knowledge that Matamata had already won the league was not an
excuse to slack off at all on the field. With wanting to keep a
clean record and stay unbeaten the team had enough of an incentive
to keep going.
The game started off in a very unusual manner, with Matamata able
to score a goal in the first minute of play. The rest of the team
were almost in shock as this is so different from the norm.
Today's game was very physical with Te Awamutu giving absolutely
no lee way. Matamata held their composure and play a very well controlled
game. Nat Gaskell had an absolutely awesome game in the midfield
and literally ran rings around the opposition. None of the Te Awamutu
players were able to get anywhere near her. New comers, Rachel Tyler
and Megan Pitcon, added value to the Ladies side and are looking
to be some very promising talent to add to the team.
The half time score was 3-1 to Matamata, no changes to the game
plan were made and Matamata carried on into the second half in much
the same fashion with scoring a goal in the first minute of play.
Te
Awamutu did step it up a notch on the physical side of things but
yet again they were unable to shut down the Matamata force, even
though they did score another goal themselves from a great placed
corner kick that a Te Awamutu attacker got her head to to beat the
Matamata keeper.
free-kicks to yet again to score from this situation!
So at the end of the game it saw Matamata come away with another
convincing win and a well earned one at that.
The Matamata Car Painters Player of the Day went to Rachel Tyler
playing in the backline and also a players choice award went out
to coach, Nat Gaskell, for her show of skill today. Goal scorers
were Nat Gaskell - 3, Sarah Monteith, Serena Jenkins, Kerrie McVeigh
and Sarah Hockley all scored 1 each.
Next Sunday Matamata travel to Waihi.
