After
ending last week's game on such a high note with scoring more than
100 goals for the season you would have thought that it would have
given Matamata that extra bit of edge to really start applying pressure
against opposition teams, but no that would not be the case yet
again.
Matamata
spent 90 % of this game camped out in the attacking half and were
just not able to send the ball into the back of the net. So much
hard work went into working the ball around, passes were direct
and everyone played brilliant but it was the elusive goals that
were the bain of the game.
But in saying that credit cannot be taken away from the Taumaranui
side for they held a very solid defensive line that did catch Matamata
off side on more than one occasion.
The stand in keeper for Matamata, Viki McLean, had a very lonely
90 minutes as she may have only touched the ball half a dozen times.
Also worth a mention is Nat Gaskell who walked away from the game
with a healthy 5 goals.
This game was also a very, very physical game, more so for centre
midfielder, Leah Higgins, who seemed to be spending a lot of time
on the ground.
Everything about this game seemed to take for ever, starting with
the kick off being delayed by 15 mins with a few of the Taumaranui
players not making it to the Domain on time, right through to the
whole game having a good 20 mins of stoppage time added to it!
It has been yet another learning curve for the Swifts Ladies who
are already discussing the future of the team for the season next
year, which will see them go up to the first division.
Goal scorers for the game were Nat Gaskell - 5,Sarah Monteith -
2, Sarah Hockley - 2 and Kerrie McVeigh - 1.
The Matamata Car Painters Player of the day went to fullback, Roxanne
Hansen, who just keeps on improving with each game that she plays.
Matamata travel away next Sunday to play against Cambridge. Kick
off is 11 am.
