On
Sunday afternoon Matamata hosted Orini FC, fresh off dropping their
first points of the season away to Tokoroa the previous weekend.
There was only thing Matamata’s mind as they entered the game – improvement.
The game started well for Matamata with their superior passing and
ball skills making Orini FC play most of the first half without the
ball. By halftime Matamata were 3-0 up and looking comfortable.
A highlight of the half for Matamata was the first goal by Pete Tatham
for Matamata in 12 years.
The second half didn’t start too well for Matamata, with Dave Taylor
being caught off his line with a smile on his face. Matamata continued
to play football though and Bevan Shelley was rewarded with a deserved
hatrick.
All in all a good team performance after last week’s disappointing
draw. Hopefully the 6-2 win will reinstall self-belief and confidence
in the team.
