Swifts Reserves 4 ...v... Te Puke 1 >>(ht 2-0)

SWIFTS YOUTH SHINE

The Swifts reserves scored a comfortable win in their final pre-season run before next week's derby against Morrinsville. Te Puke were solid opponents, at times, and had a squad that tested the youthful Swifts reserves side. This was exactly what coach, Marcelo Marquez, wanted as he looked to shake down his team for the big kick-off.

The reserves scored early through Dima Slack following a lovely flowing move. They were two up before the break after Andrew Jordan, on the recovery trail from a groin injury that has hampered his pre-season, drove a deflected shot home from eight metres.

Blair Van Waveren strode forward from right back not long after the break to smash the reserves into a three goal lead, before the visitors got some reward for their toil with a deserved goal. Andrew Clothier restored the three goal margin near the end with his first senior goal.

The team, still learning to play together, showed signs of immense promise and with more games in their legs should have a decent season.

Swifts reserves squad: Matt Aberhart; Blair Van Waveren, Daniel Holmes, Chris Bedggood, Colin Taylor; Andrew Jordan, Mike Spencer, Matt Monteith, Andrew Clothier; Dima Slack, Leo Regalado. Subs: Jono Monteith, Jamie Baxter, Chris Bedford, Gareth Clark.
