Te Awamutu
1 v Matamata Reserves 0
The Swifts reserves had a battle on their hands against one of
the league front runners at Te Awamutu at the weekend.
The home side were a solid team all around the park which lessened the
space and options the Swifts had enjoyed in past weeks. In a willing match
it appeared that comments on tackles were punished rather than the tackles
themselves which lead to the game becoming a bit scrappy at times. The
home side were quick on the break and Connell Couchman at the unfamiliar
role of sweeper and his defense line had their work cut out for the full
ninety minutes.
Keeper Justin Read was busy all day with several important saves keeping
the Swifts in the game. Te Awamutu had scored early in the match and although
the Swifts had a number of chances the home side had the better ones.
The Swifts midfield of Chris Bedford, Scott Hudson, Joel Chamberlain and
player of the day Robert Cox toiled hard all day, but when the Swifts
were forced to play the last twenty minutes of the game with ten men some
of the sting went out of their efforts.
